Channeling its aircraft bloodlines, Saab is launching a premium edition of the 9-5 sedan and wagon at the Detroit auto show.
Called the 9-5 Griffin Edition, the car is named after a Swedish combat plane. Pricing starts at $42,775 for the sedan and $44,045 for the SportCombi (wagon), including destination. They arrive on the market in January as 2009 models.
Power comes from Saab’s turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes a potent 260 hp and can be paired with five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
The exterior borrows from some of the 9-3’s recent updates, including the use of matte chrome on the front grille and headlight frames. A spoiler adds a sportier flavor in the back. The car rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and gets Griffin badges on the front fenders.
Inside, the model gets high-gloss interior trim and accented stitching. Other standard equipment includes heated, auto-dimming mirrors and rear parking assist.
