Mercedes SLR tuned to 777 hp by Renntech
The SLR McLaren supercar has been quite a canvass for tuners--and even Mercedes itself. And though the end is near for the SLR, it won’t fade quietly into car history.

Florida tuner Renntech is creating perhaps the ultimate version of the SLR, boosting horsepower to the delightfully sinful 777 and making the most out of the car’s carbon-fiber chassis.

Fittingly, it’s called the Renntech 777 and it can reach a top speed of 210 mph with the supercharged 5.5-liter V8, which has been heavily modified.

The suspensions and driveline have been redesigned. To help cornering, a new differential system allows for 100 percent locking between the wheels.

All this power for an already formidable car might seem a bit gluttonous--but Renntech is only building 20 of them to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. And there’s more to come: the tuner hints it will make “a few different extreme vehicles” to further mark the occasion.

Renntech is hardly alone in eeking every last ounce of lust out of the SLR. At the Detroit auto show, Mercedes is currently showing off the Stirling Moss edition of the SLR, a $1 million supercar with no roof that will be limited to just 75 units. That car followed 2007’s 722 Edition, which packed 650 hp.

The SLR, a joint project between Mercedes and Britain’s McLaren, ends this year.
