Acura ZDX spied: Big Apple show star caught testing
The Acura ZDX continues its drive to showrooms this fall, and the new luxury four-door was spied during testing on the road.

It looks close to the prototype shown at the New York auto show in April, with the dramatically angled roofline and bulging fenders. Up front, Acura’s bolder grille is visible through the coverings, and the doors get dramatic lines that flow backward.

Acura is billing this as a “four-door sports coupe,” and the production car will be fitted with a V6 engine, a new six-speed automatic and the company’s SH-AWD system. Technological features such as blind-spot detection, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation will be available.

The ZDX joins the parade of cars that stretch the traditional definition of coupe, and it has a rear tailgate that covers a cargo storage area. Like the show car, the production version has a glass cover in the back. Acura designers gave what is a borderline small crossover a coupelike appearance by using sharp C-pillars, and the show car had concealed rear door handles.

“From the very first sketch of the ZDX, I wanted to create an emotional vehicle that challenged conventional thinking of what a sports coupe should be,” Michelle Christensen, ZDX exterior designer, said in a statement earlier this year.

The car shown in New York was two inches longer than the MDX, but three inches shorter than the RDX.
