Volvo C30 to be revealed at Frankfurt
Volvo’s nifty hatch, the C30, is getting a light facelift that will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show.

The most significant changes come up front, where the car is fitted with a new honeycomb grille, fenders, headlights and a lower spoiler. The goal is to separate the C30 from other Volvo offerings such as the S40 and the V50.

The front end also gets a larger air intake, and a new color, orange flame metallic, is offered. The C30 was introduced in 2006.

“The new exterior is also a better match for the way the C30 drives--challenging, direct and with a whole lot of attitude,” Volvo product manager Daniel Backman said in a statement.

A new interior color package, espresso/blond, is also available and channels Volvo’s Scandinavian heritage. A new styling kit aimed at young buyers includes fog lamp décor, skidplates and an engraved logo.

An optional sport package stiffens the springs 30 percent and increases steering response by 10 percent.

The only motor coming to the U.S. market is the turbocharged five-cylinder, 227-hp, 236-lb-ft unit--all of which comes on at 2,300 rpm. A six-speed manual is standard, with a five-speed automatic optional. With the manual, the car is capable of 21 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.
