Advantige Rone
A stroll through the Geneva auto show is not complete without stopping over to see what sort of folly Frank M. Rinderknecht is up to. Rinderknecht is the owner and operator of Rinspeed Design, the Swiss shop of sleek oddities and very expensive modified cars. His 2001 concept, the "Advantige Rone," is more odd than even his own history could have foretold. First, it runs on "Kompogas," otherwise known as "fermenting organic matter -- mostly kitchen and garden waste." Rinderknecht claims that the energy extracted from 220 pounds of rotting weeds and cantaloupe rinds will power the Advantige for 62 miles -- without emitting any greenhouse gases. The car will also run on gasoline or compressed natural gas. Rinderknecht says the Advantige will stand, at three feet three inches, lower than any sports car on the planet. And that 39 inches is indeed low. It's a single-seater with "Dynamic Cockpit Control Concept," wherein the center fuselage of the vehicle leans side to side in turns as would a motorcycle.
