Aston Martin V12 Zagato production cut from 150 to 101
The Aston Martin V12 Zagato will be more exclusive than initially planned, with the UK-based luxury sports car manufacturer confirming production of the limited edition model has been cut from 150 to 101.

Aston Martin’s Marcel Fabris told CarAdvice the decision to slash production by one-third was not motivated by low demand for the 380kW Zagato sports car, but rather made based on the significant time taken to produce each vehicle as well as the desire to retain its exclusivity.

“Given the hand-built nature of the V12 Zagato, the 2000 hours required to sculpt each car and our desire to ensure its exclusivity, we have taken the decision to limit the total build to 101 units worldwide,” Fabris said.

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato made its world premiere in May 2011 when it wowed crowds at the Villa D’Este Concours at Lake Como, Italy. It was revealed in production specification for the first time 10 months later at the 2012 Geneva Motor show in March.

Styled at Aston’s design studios in Gaydon, UK, the Vantage-based V12 Zagato embraces the traditional design principles of the famous Milan-based design and engineering consultancy, incorporating a large black mesh grille, gaping side vents, ‘double bubble’ roof, circular tail-lights and a dominant rear diffuser.

The V12 Zagato celebrates the partnership between Aston Martin and Zagato that spans more than 50 years, beginning in 1960 with the launch of the DB4 GT Zagato at the London motor show.

One Australian has placed an order for an Aston Martin V12 Zagato, which is set to enter production in September. Although Aston Martin Australia has not revealed an official price, we believe the limited edition Zagato costs in excess of $850,000 down under, based on comparative prices overseas.

The reduced production brings the V12 Zagato into line with the recently revealed V12 Vantage Roadster, which will also be limited to just 101 units worldwide.
