SCR catalytic convertor Modeling for Diesel Engines

As the tendency of international automobile industry to manufacture more diesel engine powered vehicles increases, the emission regulations become more and more stringent. Hence, the need for aftertreatment devices such as SCR catalytic converters seems inevitable.
In an SCR catalytic converter the urea solution is used as a reducing agent and transformed into ammonia which reduces the diesel engine exhaust NOx about 90%.
In this project, we try to develop a mathematical model of an SCR catalytic converter by solving the heat and mass transfer partial differential equations (PDE) of the system. By changing the operating conditions of the engine we can study the behavior of the catalytic converter. We also intend to design an optimal controller to achieve the optimal performance of the system.
